What Are Instagram Notes?

Instagram Notes are short text updates (up to 60 characters) that appear at the top of your followers' DM inbox as a bubble above your profile photo. They disappear after 24 hours. If you find them annoying or do not want people seeing your note, here is how to remove or disable them.

How to Delete Your Current Note

    Open Instagram and go to your DMs

    Tap the paper aeroplane / messenger icon in the top right of the home feed to open your Direct Messages.

    Tap your profile circle at the top

    At the very top of the DM inbox, you will see your profile photo with your current note displayed above it. Tap on your profile circle.

    Tap Leave Note

    A menu appears with options including Leave Note. Tap it. Your note is immediately removed and will no longer show to your followers.

How to Stop Notes Notifications

    Go to Settings → Notifications → Notes

    Open Instagram → tap your profile → tap the three lines (top right) → Settings → Notifications. Find Notes in the list and toggle off the notifications you do not want.

Can you fully disable the Notes feature?Currently Instagram does not offer a setting to completely hide the Notes feature from your account. You can only delete your active note and turn off notifications. The feature itself remains available to use or ignore.

How to Stop Others' Notes Showing in Your Inbox

You cannot hide other people's Notes from your DM inbox — Instagram does not currently offer this option. If Notes from a specific person bother you, you can restrict or mute that account. Notes only appear from people you follow who follow you back (mutual followers).

If you are set to automatically share Notes, Instagram may be pulling in a note from your music or activity. Check Settings → Notes and disable any automatic sharing options. Also check whether a scheduled note is set up through Meta Business Suite if you use that.
