Method 1: Share via Find My App (Recommended)

    Open the Find My app

    Find My comes pre-installed on all iPhones. Search for it or find it in your app library.

    Tap the People tab

    At the bottom of the screen, tap People.

    Tap Share My Location

    This appears at the top of the People tab.

    Enter a contact

    Type the name or number of the person you want to share with. They must be in your contacts.

    Choose how long to share

    Select Share for One Hour, Share Until End of Day, or Share Indefinitely.

Method 2: Share in iMessage

    Open the conversation in Messages

    Go to the message thread with the person you want to share with.

    Tap the contact name at the top

    Tap the person's name or photo at the very top of the conversation.

    Tap Share My Location

    Choose a duration and confirm.

Method 3: Share a One-Time Location via Google Maps

Open Google Maps → tap your blue dot → Share your location → choose an app (Messages, WhatsApp etc.) and a contact. This shares a live link they can open without needing an iPhone.

To stop sharingOpen Find My → People → tap the person → Stop Sharing My Location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not via Find My, which is Apple-only. Use Google Maps location sharing instead — it works cross-platform and the recipient just needs a link.
Continuous location sharing uses GPS constantly which does use more battery. For short-term sharing it is not noticeable, but sharing indefinitely will have a small ongoing impact.
Open Find My → People tab. Anyone sharing their location with you appears here with a map pin showing where they are.
