Method 1: AirDrop (Mac or iPhone to iPad — Fastest)
- 1
Enable AirDrop on both devices
On iPad: swipe down from the top right to open Control Centre. Long-press the network card (WiFi/Bluetooth area). Tap AirDrop and set to Everyone or Contacts Only.
- 2
Share from Mac or iPhone
On Mac: right-click the file → Share → AirDrop → select the iPad. On iPhone: open the file, tap the Share icon → AirDrop → select the iPad. The file appears in the Files app or the relevant app on the iPad within seconds.
Method 2: iCloud Drive (Works Anywhere)
On your computer: save files to the iCloud Drive folder (appears in Finder sidebar on Mac; install iCloud for Windows on PC). On iPad: open the Files app → iCloud Drive → your files appear. Changes sync automatically across all Apple devices signed into the same Apple ID. Works over internet, not just local network.
Method 3: USB Cable
- 3
Connect iPad to computer via USB
Connect using a Lightning or USB-C cable depending on your iPad model. Mac: Open Finder. The iPad appears in the sidebar under Locations. Click it, trust the device if prompted. Click Files tab to see apps that accept file transfers. Drag files in. Windows: Open iTunes. Select the iPad, click File Sharing in the left menu. Same process.
Other Methods
- Google Drive / Dropbox / OneDrive: Upload files on computer, download app on iPad, access files. Works cross-platform (no Apple ID required).
- Email: Email files to yourself as attachments. Open the email on iPad and download the attachments to the Files app or relevant app.
- Nearby Share (Android to iPad): Not directly supported — use Google Drive or a shared cloud storage service instead.
