Best Remover for Each Surface
Glass and Metal
- 1
Soak with rubbing alcohol or eucalyptus oil
Saturate the residue with isopropyl alcohol (70%+) or eucalyptus oil on a cloth. Leave for 30β60 seconds to dissolve the adhesive. Rub firmly β the residue should come away cleanly.
- 2
Glass: use a razor blade at a low angle
For stubborn residue on glass (windows, glassware), hold a single-edge razor blade at a very shallow angle (almost flat against the glass) and gently scrape. This removes even the most stubborn adhesive without scratching. Never use a blade on plastic or painted surfaces.
Plastic and Painted Surfaces
- 3
Warm the adhesive first
Warm residue is softer and easier to remove. Use a hairdryer on low heat for 20β30 seconds, then rub with a cloth. The heat softens the adhesive polymer and it rolls away easily.
- 4
Apply cooking oil or peanut butter
The oils in cooking oil or peanut butter dissolve many adhesives. Apply, leave 5 minutes, then rub away. Safe on plastic and most painted surfaces. Wash with soapy water afterwards.
Wood
Apply cooking oil and leave for 5 minutes. Rub with a soft cloth. If residue persists, apply a small amount of eucalyptus oil β test in a hidden area first on varnished wood as it can affect some finishes. Avoid rubbing alcohol on bare or waxed wood as it can strip finishes.
Fabric and Clothing
Place the item in the freezer for an hour until the adhesive freezes and becomes brittle. Pick off the frozen residue with your fingers or a butter knife. For any remaining residue, apply eucalyptus oil, leave briefly and dab away. Wash as normal.
