Step-by-Step Pairing

  1. 1

Put AirPods in the case and open the lid

Place both AirPods inside the charging case. Open the lid but do not take the AirPods out yet.

  2. 2

Press and hold the button on the back of the case

Press and hold the small circular button on the back of the AirPods case for 3–5 seconds until the LED light on the front of the case flashes white. This puts the AirPods into pairing mode.

  3. 3

On Android: Settings → Bluetooth → pair

Open Settings on your Android phone. Tap Connections → Bluetooth (or just Bluetooth depending on your Android version). Ensure Bluetooth is on. Your AirPods should appear in the list of available devices — usually listed as “AirPods” or by your AirPods name. Tap them to pair. They connect within a few seconds.

  • Microphone for calls
  • Tap/squeeze controls for play/pause and skip
  • Automatic ear detection (pauses when removed) — on most models
  • Volume control

What Does Not Work on Android

  • Siri voice activation (tap-to-activate)
  • Automatic switching between Apple devices
  • Battery level shown in the status bar (use the free “AirBattery” app to see battery levels)
  • Spatial Audio and Adaptive Transparency (AirPods Pro)
  • Announce Notifications and other Siri features
AirBattery appDownload the free AirBattery app from the Google Play Store. It shows AirPods battery level for left earbud, right earbud and case — the main missing feature when using AirPods with Android.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — once paired, AirPods remember your Android phone and reconnect automatically when you open the case near the phone with Bluetooth on. The reconnection is not as seamless as with Apple devices (where it happens almost instantly) but is reliable. If they do not reconnect, put them back in the case, close and reopen the lid.
Not simultaneously, but you can switch between them. AirPods on Android are paired like any standard Bluetooth device. To switch to iPhone: open the AirPods case near your iPhone — a connection card appears. Tap Connect. To switch back to Android: disconnect from iPhone in Bluetooth settings, then reconnect on Android. The seamless automatic switching only works between Apple devices signed into the same Apple ID.
