Cookies vs cross-site trackingSafari’s Intelligent Tracking Prevention blocks third-party tracking cookies by default — this is good for privacy and you should leave it on. Only disable “Block all cookies” if a specific website is not working. First-party cookies (from the site you are visiting) are essential for logins and shopping carts. Third-party tracking cookies are primarily used for advertising.
Frequently Asked Questions
Try clearing Safari’s existing cookies and cache: Settings → Safari → Clear History and Website Data, then reload the page. Also check if you are using a Private browsing window — Private mode blocks cookies by design. Switch to a regular window and try again.
Enabling first-party cookies is safe and necessary for most websites to function. The privacy concern is with third-party tracking cookies used by advertisers. Safari’s default Intelligent Tracking Prevention handles this automatically — you do not need to manually manage it. Simply ensuring Block all cookies is off is sufficient for normal browsing.
