How to Remove an Apple Watch Band

  1. 1

Turn the watch face-down on a soft surface

Place the Apple Watch face-down on a soft, non-scratching surface β€” a microfibre cloth or the inside of a soft pouch works well. You need to see and access the back of the watch.

  2. 2

    Locate the band release buttons

On the back of the watch case, there are two small oval-shaped buttons β€” one on the top edge and one on the bottom edge, positioned where the bands attach. Each button releases one band segment.

  3. 3

Press and hold the release button and slide the band out

Press and hold the release button firmly. While holding, slide the band horizontally outward (in the direction the band runs, not pulling away from the watch). The band slides out smoothly. Repeat for the other band segment using the other button.

How to Attach a New Band

  1. 4

Align the band with the slot

Hold the new band segment so the release button on the band faces away from the watch face. Align the band connector with the slot on the watch case.

  2. 5

    Slide in until it clicks

Slide the band into the slot horizontally until you feel and hear a firm click. Give it a gentle tug to confirm it is locked in. Repeat for the other band segment.

Band compatibilityAll Apple Watch bands are compatible across Series 1 through Series 9 and SE β€” within the same case size (38/40/41mm or 42/44/45mm). The 41mm and 40mm cases use the same bands, as do the 45mm and 44mm cases. Third-party bands using the same connector style also work.

Band Release Button Stuck?

If the button feels stuck or the band will not slide: make sure you are pressing the button and sliding simultaneously (not one after the other). Press more firmly β€” the button requires deliberate pressure. If the band is a Sport Loop, pull the band loop tab rather than using the button.
